Last Saturday my friend Sarah and I joined a group from Unfolding Adventures for Women on a canoeing trip down the Russian River.
The point of the trip–and Unfolding Adventures–is to get out and enjoy God’s creation while taking time to stop and reflect. That’s what this canoeing trip was all about, aside from the rowing (and rowing and rowing). Toward the end of our trip the waters became calm and we all stopped rowing and just floated.
I stretched out across the canoes. I watched the sky pass above slowly. I listened to the breeze rustle the leaves in the trees. I felt the sun on my skin. I smelled the vegetation lining the riverbank. I had nothing to do by lie there and take everything in. It’s a lovely reminder of how important it is to just stop and be silent once in a while.
